Tillandsia Ionantha 'Rubra' is a perfect beginner's forgiving air plant, both forgiving to over and underwatering. Native to Central America and Mexico, it's name Ionantha means violet flower (‘ion’ meaning violet and antha meaning flower) because it blooms striking violet flowers after its spiky leaves turn a vivid red! Although the beautiful vivid colors attract hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators, this plant has also done a wonderful job of gaining admiration of humans because they are the most abundant air plant I’ve seen thus far, not to diminish its specialness.
Care:
-Bright to moderate light -Water by submerging completely in a bowl/basin or misting thoroughly 1-2x per week depending on climate -Need excellent air circulation (fan or breeze after watering)
